The Moadim dance team has been worshipping the Father and His Son Yeshua through the Spirit in this particular way for the past two years, celebrating the feasts and offering their love, worship and bringing our Elohim the glory and honour through dancing and particularly Hebrew dancing.
There are many names for this kind of dancing using Israeli/Hebrew dance steps – Messianic dancing, Hebrew dancing, Davidic dancing, Israeli worship dancing. Call it whatever you like, it is fulfilling, liberating, expressive and a wonderful way of ministering to others. It is also a great privilege and blessing and we thank the Father daily for our good health and the opportunity He creates for us to dance for Him.
The aim of the Moadim dance team is not performance, but worship and ministering to others. We have male and female dance worshippers of all ages, shapes and sizes and our wish is to demonstrate that dancing is for the whole family, not only for those who have been trained in some form of dancing or are the right shape and size.
The Scriptures are full of words and references to dancing. A number of Hebrew words have been translated as “dance”and describe movement – words meaning to leap or skip, to dance, to whirl about (kind David’s dance as the ark was brought to Jerusalem), to dance around in circular movements, to rejoice by circling around with a vigorous, enthusiastic expression of joy.
The website
www.davidicdance.com under the heading “Dancing in Scripture” gives an interesting explanation regarding some words used: Two words are derived from the same root word, which contains two basic ideas – one is dance, whirling around, and the other is writhing in labour pains, to travail or tremble or fear. The root word is used in Psalms 97:4 and 114:7 and speaks of the earth that trembles when God’s power is displayed. In Ps. 96:9 “a more accurate picture would be of people ‘trembling in joy’ or even in ‘dance’. In combining the two basic ideas of the word mentioned above, one could think of dance as a way to travail in prayer as labor pains bring forth new life.” An awesome thought! The word “worship” comes from the old English word “worthship”. We worship Elohim for His worth. He is the one that must be praised and lifted up. The Father and the Son are the subjects of our praise and worship while the Spirit is the vehicle through which we worship them. When we worship, the Spirit takes the worship and makes it presentable to the Father and the Son. That which Yahweh has given us, we reflect back to Him through the Spirit also when we dance.
Here are some Scriptural references to dancing (taken from The Scriptures, ......):
Exodus 15:20: Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
1Sa 18:7 And the women sang as they danced, and said, “Sha’ul smote his thousands, and Dawid? his ten thousands.”
Psa 149:3 Let them praiseHis Name in a dance; Let them sing praises to Him with the tambourine and lyre.
Psa 150:4: Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
II Samuel 6:14: Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.
I Chronicles 15:29: And it happened, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the City of David, that Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David whirling (dancing) and playing music; and she despised him in her heart.
Jer 31:4 “I am going to build you again. And you shall be rebuilt, O maiden of Yisra’?l! Again you shall take up your tambourines, and go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.
Jer 31:13 “Then shall a maiden rejoice in a dance, and young men and old, together. And I shall turn their mourning to joy, and shall comfort them, and shall make them rejoice from their sorrow,
Zep 3:17 “Yahweh your Elohim in your midst, is mighty to save. He rejoices over you with joy, He is silent in His love, He rejoices over you with singing.” “(Some translations read “He dances over you with joy”)
To circle around, to circle in joy. vigorous, enthusiastic expression of joy:
Psalm 51:8: Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
Psalm 97:8: Zion hears and is glad, And the daughters of Judah rejoiced Because of Your judgments, O LORD.
Flags, tambourines and other elements in themselves carry no power but when used as instruments of worship, they make a powerful statement in the spiritual realm. The word banner in Scriptures can be understood also as a “flag”.
When we worship, the Scriptures tell us we receive answer to our prayers, miracles happen, we see victory, praise leads to joy, lost souls are saved, we receive strength, we show gratitude, joy, honour and glory, it brings us into the presence of the Father. Read the following Scriptures for confirmation:
Jonah 2:9,10: “But I offer to You with the voice of thanksgiving, I pay what I have vowed. Deliverance is of Yahweh.” Then Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited Yonah on the dry land.
Acts 16, Joshua 6, Judges 7
2Ch 20:21, 22: And after consulting with the people, he appointed those who should sing to Yahweh, and who should praise the splendour of set-apartness, as they went out before the army and were saying, “Give thanks to Yahweh, for His kindness is everlasting.” And when they began singing and praising, Yahweh set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Mo’ab?, and Mount S??ir, who had come against Yehud?ah, and they were smitten.
Isa 30:32 And every passage of the ordained staff which Yahweh lays on him, shall be with tambourines and lyres, when He shall fight with it, battling with a brandishing arm.
Act 2:47 praising Elohim and having favour with all the people. And the Master added to the assembly those who were being saved, day by day.
Act 16:25, 26: And at midnight Sha’ul and Sila were praying and singing songs to Elohim, and the prisoners were listening to them. And suddenly a great earthquake took place, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened and all the chains came loose.
Neh 8:10: the joy of Yahweh is your strength.
Psalm 18:3 I call upon Yahweh, the One to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.
There are many instances mentioned in the Scriptures where, as the people started praising and glorifying Yahweh, He gave the battle in their hands and they were victorious.
